Intel Gets a New Data Center Leader

Navin Shanoy is the newly appointed general manager of Intel’s Data Center Group (DCG). Shanov was one of the top executives responsible for shaping Intel’s PC strategy.

Intel’s DCG business group includes servers, network, and storage products, and Shenoy is responsible for the strategy and product development spanning these areas for cloud service providers, communications service providers, as well as enterprise and government infrastructure customers.

Shenoy replaces Diane Bryant, who is taking a leave of absence for six to eight months and will be given a new position at Intel when she returns, the company said in an SEC filing in early May.

The DCG is one of the company’s more profitable units. During its first quarter 2017 earnings, the company reported that its data center business revenue was $4.2 billion, up 6 percent year-over-year. 

CenturyLink’s CEO Succession Plan

Following the close of the CenturyLink and Level 3 acquisition, Jeff Storey, current president and CEO of Level 3 Communications will join CenturyLink as its president and chief operating officer.

Current CenturyLink CEO Glen Post will remain CEO until Jan. 1, 2019. At that time, Storey is expected to succeed Post as CEO and Post will become executive chairman the company’s board of directors.

The transaction is expected to close by Sept. 30.

BT Cuts 4,000 Jobs After Scandal

British Telecom Group (BT) is cutting management pay and eliminating 4,000 jobs to restore investor confidence after the division was involved in an accounting scandal in Italy, reported Bloomberg.

Of its 10,000 employees, the 4,000 job cuts will come from global services and BT’s technology, service, and operations unit, Bloomberg said. The company also will reportedly face more than  $387 million in restructuring charge over the next two years.

Shareholders had been pushing BT to adjust executive pay after the company revealed in January that accounting irregularities in its Italian business were worse than expected, which contributed to a reduced profit outlook announced during its fourth-quarter fiscal 2017 results.

Following the poor outlook, bonuses for CEO Gavin Patterson and former CFO Tony Chanmugam were reduced for the 2017 fiscal year.

Movers and Shakers

Karl Soderlund, a former sales executive at companies like Imperva, Aruba, and Avaya, joined Palo Alto Networks as its VP of Americas channel sales, according to his LinkedIn post. 

Monitoring company Datadog hired John Gray as it senior vice president of alliances. Gray most recently served at one of Datadog’s biggest competitors, New Relic.

Cloudflare hired former Symantec CFO Thomas Seifert as its CFO. The company is preparing to launch an initial public offering (IPO).

Hyperconverged infrastructure provider Pivot3 appointed Carlo Garbagnati as its vice president of engineering.

Belle Lajoie, a founding member of Megaport and previously the EVP of the Asia-Pacific region at Megaport, was promoted to chief commercial officer for the company.

The inventor of the Java programming language, James Gosling joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a distinguished engineer.

Big Switch Networks appointed James Wong to the newly created role of general manager for its South Asia region.

Former Google executive Justin Reid joined cloud platform vendor Payment Rails as its new chief revenue officer where he’ll manage sales, growth, and channel partnerships.

ERF wireless’ board of directors removed its President and CEO H. Dean Cubley from his position and also removed Clareen O’Quinn as corporate secretary and any other offices she held. No reason was given for the removals.

Intel’s board of directors promoted three corporate officers. Navin Shenoy was promoted from SVP to EVP; Gregory Bryant was promoted from corporate VP to senior VP; and Sandra Rivera was promoted from corporate VP to senior VP.

The Open Networking User Group (ONUG) appointed Fred Lima, principal architect of network security at eBay, to its board.

5G Americas elected Paul Greendyk, vice president of mobile core and network services at AT&T, as the chairman of its board of governors through the end of 2017.

Hybrid cloud storage provider SwiftStack added former Cisco executive Panjak Patel to its board of directors where he’ll be focused on its technology strategy, partners, and scaling the company.

Former executive at companies like Alcatel-Lucent and Juniper Networks, Vince Molinaro is now a part of Procera Networks’ board of directors.

Cloud analytics company Ryft appointed Brian Marlier, SVP of global architectures and enterprise transformation at Cisco, to its board of directors.

CoreOS added Mozilla Foundation Executive Chairwoman Mitchell Baker to its board of directors as its first independent member.

DataDirect Networks (DDN) hired former Intel storage executive Eric Barton as its CTO for software-defined storage.

Rima Qureshi, the Head of Ericsson North America and a key player in its partnership with Cisco departed Ericsson to join another unnamed company.

Ericsson named company veteran Erik Ekudden to group CTO and head of technology and architecture, effective July 1.
